| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Linda | 4 |
| Marie White, the 26th international president of the Alpha | 5 |
| Kappa Alpha Sorority; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Linda White joined the Alpha Pi Chapter of Alpha | 7 |
| Kappa Alpha at Clark University in Atlanta, Georgia in 1960; | 8 |
| after leaving Clark, she returned to Chicago and joined the | 9 |
| Theta Omega Chapter, where she began her ascension up the | 10 |
| leadership ladder; she served Theta Omega as its president and | 11 |
| was active in its charitable arm, the AKArama Foundation; and
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Anxious to serve Alpha Kappa Alpha on a national | 13 |
| level, Linda White successfully ran for international | 14 |
| secretary of Alpha Kappa Alpha and served from 1994 to 1998; | 15 |
| she then ran for first vice president, which put her in line to | 16 |
| be international president; she served in this capacity from | 17 |
| 2002 to 2006; and
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, During her tenure as international president of | 19 |
| Alpha Kappa Alpha, Linda White focused on education, health, | 20 |
| the arts, and the black family; her administration was | 21 |
| responsible for the launch of the Young Authors program, which | 22 |
| showcased the talents of children up to age 18; her |

| administration provided a vehicle for exposing their works and | 2 |
| a launching pad for their talent through the publication The | 3 |
| Spirit Within; she is credited with the creation of the | 4 |
| Centennial Traveling Exhibit, which captured highlights of | 5 |
| AKA's 98-year-history in exhibits, dioramas, and interactive | 6 |
| presentations; her administration also secured a $1.5 million | 7 |
| grant from the U.S. Department of Education, which enabled | 8 |
| Alpha Kappa Alpha to establish the Ivy Reading AKAdemy, a | 9 |
| tutorial haven for those youth who needed a place to improve | 10 |
| their reading skills; and
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Linda White was active with the Links and served | 12 |
| on the board of the United Negro College Fund; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Linda White was employed as a regional director | 14 |
| with the Social Security Administration; and | 15 |
| WHEREAS, Linda White is survived by her sister, Judy White | 16 |
| Rushing; her brother, Spruiell White (Nedra); her nephews, Adam | 17 |
| and Albert Travis; and her many friends and colleagues, | 18 |
| including the members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority; | 19 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 21 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 22 |
| mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Linda |
