| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Karen Williams-Grier, who passed away on | 4 | | January 22, 2019; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Karen Williams-Grier was born in Chicago to | 6 | | Antoinette Bass and Willie "Bill" Williams on January 6, 1961; | 7 | | she graduated from the Academy of Our Lady in 1979 and studied | 8 | | nursing at Lewis University; she married Bernard Grier on | 9 | | August 16, 1997; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Karen Williams-Grier was a member of the Mt. Joy | 11 | | Missionary Baptist Church, where she was part of the Caregivers | 12 | | Ministry and president of the Usher Board; she enjoyed talking | 13 | | on the phone, listing to music and her police scanner, and | 14 | | staying current by watching the news; she was warm, funny, and | 15 | | generous to a fault; she lived her life with purpose; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Karen Williams-Grier was preceded in death by her | 17 | | maternal grandparents, Alvin and Nettie James Dumas; her | 18 | | paternal grandparents, Willie and
Ellen Williams; her special | 19 | | aunt, Loretta Palm; and other relatives and friends; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Karen Williams-Grier is survived by her
husband, | 21 | | Bernard Grier; her children, Lauren (Benjamin III) Holliman and

| 1 | | Joshua Grier; her parents; her bonus mom, Sylester Williams;

Williams; her | 5 | | special cousins, Michael and Annette; her best friend since | 6 | | kindergarten, Kathy Williams;
her adopted brother, Hudson | 7 | | Palm; her aunt, Lanice Richardson; and extended family member | 8 | | and
friends; therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 11 | | Karen Williams-Grier and extend our sincere condolences to her | 12 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 13 | | further
