| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are pleased to honor Laura Lake on being | 4 | | selected as Miss Northern Suburbs and recognize her platform on | 5 | | food insecurity; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Laura Lake hopes her platform will bring attention | 7 | | to the fact that one in 6 Americans, and one in 8 people | 8 | | internationally, suffer from malnutrition, and these numbers | 9 | | continue to rise - yet Americans waste over 33,000,000,000 tons | 10 | | of food each year; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, As Miss Northern Suburb, Laura Lake has | 12 | | volunteered for several food banks, served weekly dinners for | 13 | | the hungry, become a member of the Northern Illinois Food Bank | 14 | | Young Professionals Board, created a social media campaign | 15 | | called "Take the Pledge", attended hunger walks, begun creating | 16 | | a food drive event, and worked with the Feeding America | 17 | | corporate office in Chicago; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, As Miss Northern Suburb, Laura Lake has given many | 19 | | appearances that have included supporting veterans, speeches | 20 | | to 200 people, packing meat at the Northern Illinois Food Bank, | 21 | | serving breakfast to Ronald McDonald House guests, and much | 22 | | more; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Laura Lake first began working to end hunger when | 2 | | she was in junior high school; every Friday night for 2 years | 3 | | she volunteered at a local church dinner for the hungry; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Laura Lake originally hails from Marshfield, | 5 | | Wisconsin; she graduated high school in 2010 and from Winona | 6 | | State University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Public | 7 | | Administration; she relocated to Lombard in 2013 and now | 8 | | attends Northern Illinois University and currently works for | 9 | | the Village of Morton Grove; therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 11 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 12 | | we honor Laura Lake on being selected as Miss Northern Suburbs | 13 | | and recognize her platform on food insecurity; and be it | 14 | | further
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 16 | | presented to Laura Lake as an expression of our esteem and | 17 | | respect.
