| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jonathan Kuck on | 4 |
| the occasion of his silver medal victory in the team pursuit | 5 |
| speed skating competition at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in | 6 |
| Vancouver, Canada; and
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Jonathan Kuck was born on March 14, 1990, in | 8 |
| Urbana; and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Jonathan Kuck graduated from University | 10 |
| Laboratory High School in Urbana in 2007; he is currently | 11 |
| attending the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana, | 12 |
| where he is majoring in engineering physics with a minor in | 13 |
| computer science; and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Jonathan Kuck began skating at the age of 10; he | 15 |
| did not take the sport seriously until the age of 13, when he | 16 |
| started skating at the Ice Arena on the University of Illinois | 17 |
| campus; and
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Jonathan Kuck has enjoyed great success in speed | 19 |
| skating; he was the 2008 and 2009 U.S. Junior Speedskating | 20 |
| Champion and took 2nd place overall at the 2009 World Junior | 21 |
| Speedskating Championships; he competed in the 1000m, 1500m, |

| and the 5/10,000m in World Cup events during the 2009-10 | 2 |
| season; he then qualified to skate for the U.S. speed skating | 3 |
| team in the 10,000 meter race and the team pursuit in the 2010 | 4 |
| Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Jonathan Kuck made a stellar performance during | 6 |
| the 2010 Winter Olympics; he placed 8th in the 10,000 meter | 7 |
| event and set the highest American finish with a time of | 8 |
| 13:31.78; Jonathan and his teammates, Chad Hedrick, Brian | 9 |
| Hansen, and Trevor Marsicono, went on to beat the Netherlands | 10 |
| team in the team pursuit semi-final; the team then lost to | 11 |
| Canada and won the silver medal in the event; and | 12 |
| WHEREAS, Jonathan Kuck serves as a model of hard work, | 13 |
| integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of | 14 |
| Illinois; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 16 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 17 |
| congratulate Jonathan Kuck on the occasion of his victory and | 18 |
| wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be | 19 |
| it further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 21 |
| presented to Jonathan Kuck as a symbol of our esteem and | 22 |
| respect.
