| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Martha | 4 | | Ann Burns; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Martha Burns was born in Chicago, on January 22, | 6 | | 1941; her parents were Anna Lou and John Doyle; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Martha Burns was raised on the West Side of | 8 | | Chicago in the Robert Brooks Housing Projects; she attended St. | 9 | | Joseph Mission and School; she was baptized at St. Joseph | 10 | | Mission in 1947 and she was confirmed at Holy Family Church in | 11 | | 1949; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Martha Burns was employed at an ice-cream cone | 13 | | making factory and worked as a clerk at Spiegel's before | 14 | | beginning a 36-year career with the United States Postal | 15 | | Service; she began her career at the USPS as a temp during | 16 | | Christmas time; when her outstanding job performance was duly | 17 | | noted by her supervisor, she began working at the post office | 18 | | full-time; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Martha Burns enjoyed reading, the arts, poetry, | 20 | | plays, museums, the opera, historic places, artifacts, | 21 | | dancing, listening to music, and sports of all kinds, |

| 1 | | especially bowling, basketball, and tennis; she also won many | 2 | | tournaments in the semi-pro bowling circuit during the 1970s | 3 | | and 1980s and was named the Sun-Times Semi-Pro Bowler of the | 4 | | Year twice; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Martha Burns was a member of numerous | 6 | | organizations that promoted helping disenfranchised persons, | 7 | | especially those with children; she was also a staunch believer | 8 | | in supporting black owned businesses; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, Martha Burns was preceded in death by her parents; | 10 | | her husband, Wallace (BeBe) Burns; and her brothers, Ronald and | 11 | | Donald; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Martha Burns is survived by her children, Paul | 13 | | (Lisa) Sidney, Steven (Veronica) Sidney, Marcella | 14 | | Wuertenberger, and Angela and Sharron Brandon; her | 15 | | grandchildren, Nolen (Aisha) Davis, Kelsey, Maxwell, Andrew, | 16 | | Hallie Sidney, Ronel (Vanessa) Correia, Steven II and Octavia | 17 | | Sidney, Elona Rios, Darrell Prouty, George Galloway, and Savion | 18 | | Johnson; her 12 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Leona | 19 | | Doyle, Lucius (Vernia) Doyle, and Kenneth (Merle) Doyle; her | 20 | | sisters by proxy, Joanne Jacobson, Annette (Roy) Shabazz, and | 21 | | Marion Woodberry; her brothers by proxy, Jerome Gray and John | 22 | | and Perry King; her sisters-in-law, Arme Doyle and Lenora | 23 | | Doyle; her brother-in-law, George (Joan) Floyd; her 'son cross |

| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 4 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 5 | | we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of | 6 | | Martha Ann Burns; and be it further
| 7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 8 | | presented to the family of Martha Burns as an expression of our | 9 | | sympathy.
