SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Rev. Dr. Dan Smith of New Haven,
4Missouri, who passed away on September 29, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rev. Smith, the son of Edward and Bette Smith,
6was born in Connersville, Indiana on June 21, 1956; he
7received his bachelor's degree from Indiana University and his
8Master of Divinity from Methodist Theological Seminary in
9Ohio; he later earned his doctorate from Western Theological
10Seminary in Holland, Michigan in 2011; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Rev. Smith served as a Methodist minister for 20
12years before joining the United Church of Christ (UCC); at the
13time of his passing, he was serving at St. Peter's UCC in New
14Haven, Missouri; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Rev. Smith loved taking rides on his
16Harley-Davidson, and he was part of various Harley-Davidson
17riding groups; he also enjoyed playing the drums, listening to
18classic rock and roll, reading a good book, and watching
19movies; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Rev. Smith was devoted to his family, and he
21always made sure to stay in touch by phone or text; he never

1knew a stranger and would do anything to help someone in need;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Rev. Smith was the father of Micah Smith, the
4brother of Sande (Smith) and Randy Hardy, and the uncle of
5several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Rev. Dr. Dan Smith and extend our sincere condolences to his
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Rev. Smith as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
