| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Peru Firefighters, | 4 | | Lieutenant Neil Nadolski, Ben Bentley, and Alex Duncan, who | 5 | | received the Firefighter Excellence Award from the Office of | 6 | | the State Fire Marshall for their heroism during an incident | 7 | | occurring on September 29, 2017; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, On September 29, 2017, the Peru Fire Department | 9 | | received a call to aid the LaSalle Fire Department with a house | 10 | | fire and were informed that an individual was trapped in the | 11 | | home; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Neil Nadolski, Ben Bentley, Alex | 13 | | Duncan, and a LaSalle firefighter entered the home to rescue | 14 | | the individual and were met with zero visibility and smoke | 15 | | banking the door; due to the conditions in the home and the | 16 | | presence of numerous cats, they could not immediately locate | 17 | | the victim; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, These four brave first responders continued to | 19 | | call out to the victim, but due to the yowling of the cats and | 20 | | the roaring fire, they could not hear the woman; they persisted | 21 | | in their search for her; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, The fire soon consumed the doorway that was their | 2 | | only exit from the house, and the heat and the smoke | 3 | | intensified; the firefighters persisted in their search and | 4 | | found the victim unresponsive in her recliner; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, The firefighters removed the victim from the house | 6 | | through a nearby window, and because of their bravery and quick | 7 | | response, the woman survived for two weeks before succumbing to | 8 | | exposure from the fire; therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 10 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 11 | | congratulate Lieutenant Neil Nadolski, Ben Bentley, and Alex | 12 | | Duncan for receiving the Firefighter Excellence Award, and we | 13 | | commend the bravery of the LaSalle and Peru firefighters in | 14 | | extinguishing the house fire on September 29, 2017; and be it | 15 | | further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to Lieutenant Neil Nadolski, Ben Bentley, Alex | 18 | | Duncan, Peru Fire Chief Jeff King, and LaSalle Fire Chief Andy | 19 | | Bacidore.
