| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Joseph P. Marto of McHenry; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Marto was born in Great Falls, Montana on | 5 | | March 18, 1938; he spent time living in Shelby, Montana and the | 6 | | states of Oregon and Washington, before settling in Sprague, | 7 | | Washington; he entered the seminary in 1954 and was ordained a | 8 | | priest for the diocese of Spokane in 1963, receiving his Master | 9 | | of Divinity degree; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Marto worked in several parishes until he | 11 | | became Diocesan Director of Religious Education; in 1971, he | 12 | | left the active ministry and married Rosemary Gaffney; they | 13 | | settled in Chicago where he attended The John Marshall Law | 14 | | School, receiving his Juris Doctor degree in 1974, placing in | 15 | | the top 10 of his class; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Marto's legal career began in Springfield | 17 | | as house counsel for the Illinois State Bar Association; he | 18 | | then worked with various firms in Chicago, primarily as a trial | 19 | | attorney for insurance defense firms; he obtained a Real Estate | 20 | | Broker's license in 1976 and owned several apartment buildings; | 21 | | he retired to McHenry in 1989; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, In retirement, Joseph Marto began a life of | 2 | | volunteering; he organized computer classes for seniors in | 3 | | McHenry Township, prepared free tax returns for seniors through | 4 | | the AARP Tax Aide program, and ran a free legal aide program at | 5 | | Senior Services for several years; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Marto is survived by his wife of 42 years, | 7 | | Rosemary, and by several cousins, nieces, and nephews; | 8 | | therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 11 | | Joseph P. Marto, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 12 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 13 | | further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 | | presented to the family of Joseph Marto as an expression of our | 16 | | deepest sympathy.
