SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3congratulate Teresa A. Hubka, D.O. of Chicago on the occasion
4of her election as national president of the American
5Osteopathic Association (AOA); and
 
6    WHEREAS, The AOA represents more than 186,000 osteopathic
7physicians and medical students; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Hubka's election as the 128th national
9president of the AOA marks the first time in the
10organization's history that an Illinois doctor has been
11elected; she is also the organization's first OB-GYN to be
12president and only the second woman to serve in this role; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Hubka has previously served the AOA in a
14number of positions, including as a member on the Board of
15Trustees since 2013; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Hubka received her undergraduate degree in
17biochemistry and nutrition science from the University of
18California, Davis and her Master of Science in Biology and
19Clinical Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport in
20Connecticut; she earned her osteopathic medical degree from
21Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine

1(DMU-COM) in Des Moines, Iowa; she then completed an
2osteopathic internship at Atlantic City Medical Center in New
3Jersey, followed by a residency in obstetrics and gynecologic
4surgery at Mercy Hospital & Medical Center in Chicago,
5Illinois; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Hubka is the founder and medical director of
7Comprehensive Wellness Care, LLC, a practice specializing in
8reproductive health; she has been in private practice in the
9Lincoln Park area of Chicago since 1994; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dr. Hubka is a clinical professor and the
11department chair of OB-GYN at Midwestern University/Chicago
12College of Osteopathic Medicine; she is also an adjunct
13professor at DMU-COM, and she currently serves as a faculty
14member and instructor for the Basic and Advanced Life Support
15in Obstetrics courses; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Hubka has acquired a number of accolades,
17including receiving the American College of Osteopathic
18Obstetricians and Gynecologists Distinguished Service Award in
192014 and being named Alumnus of the Year for DMU in 2014; she
20was also named a "top doctor" in women's healthcare in Chicago
21Magazine's annual series several times between 2010 to 2023;

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Hubka will be inaugurated as national
2president of the AOA in Chicago on July 20, 2024; therefore, be
3it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Teresa
6A. Hubka, D.O. on her election as national president of the
7American Osteopathic Association (AOA); and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to Dr. Hubka as an expression of our esteem and
10respect.
