| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of
Nathalia Field Holland of Evanston, who | 4 | | passed away on January 6, 2011; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Nathalia Holland was born on February 18, 1908, in | 6 | | Omaha, Nebraska; her parents were Herbert H. and Margaret | 7 | | Larkin Field; she married William M. Holland in 1940; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Nathalia Holland had a long and distinguished | 9 | | career in journalism; at the age of 14, she began reporting for | 10 | | the Omaha World-Herald, where she covered events at Omaha's | 11 | | Central High School while she attended school there; she | 12 | | continued to pursue her love of writing in college, graduating | 13 | | with a journalism degree from the University of Nebraska in | 14 | | 1931; she was also active in the Gamma Phi Beta sorority; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from college, Nathalia Holland | 16 | | began a successful career at Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph | 17 | | Co., where she worked in the publicity department as an editor | 18 | | and copywriter;
she quickly worked her way up to her position | 19 | | as an advertising copywriter and scriptwriter for the popular | 20 | | radio variety show "The Singing Philosopher" on radio station | 21 | | KFAB in Lincoln, Nebraska, where she wrote material for host | 22 | | Lyle DeMoss; she also did freelance advertising for the House |

| 1 | | of Bauer Chocolate Company and public relations for the Bauer | 2 | | Drug Store Company during this time; after getting married, she | 3 | | and her husband settled in Evanston, where they spent the rest | 4 | | of their lives; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Nathalia Holland was a member of the Nebraska | 6 | | Writers Guild and the First Presbyterian Church of Evanston; | 7 | | and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Nathalia Holland was the wife of the late William | 9 | | M. Holland; the mother of Marsha F. and William W. Holland; the | 10 | | sister of the late Herbert H., Jr., Marshall E., and Bradley C. | 11 | | Field; the aunt of Bradley (Bernice) Field and Don (Barbara) | 12 | | Field; the great aunt of Curt (Launie), Lawrence, Nancy, Gary | 13 | | (Jennifer), Russell, James (Jean), and Peter Field and Hayley | 14 | | (Michael) Nunn; she is also survived by her long time | 15 | | caregiver, Maria (John) Pyrak; and her devoted friends, Nancy | 16 | | Crane, Judy Ide, and Lisa Russell; therefore, be it
| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | 18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 19 | | her family and friends, the passing of Nathalia Field Holland; | 20 | | and be it further
