| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Terrence | 4 | | James "T.J." Shirley of Lansing, who passed away on May 6, | 5 | | 2012; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, He was born October 26, 1958 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa | 7 | | to Patrick and Caroline Shirley; in 1976, he graduated from | 8 | | Fennimore High School, where he had an outstanding athletic | 9 | | career in track and cross country; he graduated from Dubuque | 10 | | University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education in 1981; | 11 | | he was an outstanding track athlete and set many school | 12 | | records; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, After graduation, he taught at several schools | 14 | | before teaching at Thornridge School District in Dolton; he | 15 | | later became the athletic director and physical education | 16 | | teacher along with coaching multiple sports in the school and | 17 | | community; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, While teaching and coaching, he earned a Master's | 19 | | Degree in School Administration and a Master's Degree in | 20 | | Physical Education; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, He was well known for his annual athletic field |

| 1 | | event known as "Blue Smoke"; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Terrence James "T.J." Shirley is survived by his | 3 | | parents, Patrick and Caroline Shirley; his sons, Cameron and | 4 | | Joshua; his daughter, Marissa; his brothers, George and Shaun | 5 | | (Kristie); his sisters, Teresa McElree and Vallerie Lynn; and | 6 | | 20 nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 8 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 9 | | we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of | 10 | | Terrence Shirley; and be it further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to the family of Terrence James "T.J." Shirley as a | 13 | | symbol of our sincere sympathy.
