| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to honor our esteemed former colleague, | 4 | | Representative John D'Amico, for serving as a member of the | 5 | | Illinois General Assembly for nearly 17 years and to thank him | 6 | | for his dedication to our State and his community; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Rep. D'Amico was born in Chicago; he graduated | 8 | | from St. Edward Elementary School and Weber High School in | 9 | | Chicago before attending Northeastern Illinois University; he | 10 | | joined the Chicago Water Department in 1982, and he currently | 11 | | serves as assistant superintendent; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Rep. D'Amico was first elected as a state | 13 | | representative in 2004 and served on several committees, | 14 | | including Aging, Appropriations–Public Safety, Labor, | 15 | | Elections & Campaign Reform, Electric Utility Oversight, | 16 | | Transportation & Motor Vehicles, Workers' Compensation and | 17 | | Unemployment, and the Committee of the Whole; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Rep. D'Amico remained committed to one of his top | 19 | | priorities while serving as the chairman of the | 20 | | Transportation: Vehicles & Safety Committee, driving safety | 21 | | for all Illinoisans; during his tenure, he was influential in | 22 | | passing several pieces of legislation that keep citizens safe |

| 1 | | every day, including legislation that created a graduated | 2 | | driver's license program for teens; additionally he passed | 3 | | legislation that required minors to complete a minimum of 50 | 4 | | practice hours behind the wheel in order to receive their | 5 | | driver's license and legislation that allowed the parents | 6 | | and/or guardians of minors to view a teenager's driving record | 7 | | online in an effort to keep our children safer on the roads; he | 8 | | also passed legislation to restrict cell phone use by teens | 9 | | while driving, to ban cell phone use in all school and | 10 | | construction zones, and to ban texting while driving; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Rep. D'Amico is also a member of the Edgebrook | 12 | | Community Association, the St. Edwards Athletic Advisory | 13 | | Committee, the City Club of Chicago, the Mayfair Lions Club, | 14 | | the Queen of All Saints Men's Club, and the Edgebrook | 15 | | Sauganash Athletic Association; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, All who had the honor to serve with Rep. D'Amico | 17 | | will miss his friendship, kindness, professionalism, | 18 | | sincerity, and unwavering commitment to his community, the | 19 | | State of Illinois, and, most of all, his family, including his | 20 | | wife, Christine, and his three children; therefore, be it
