| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Colonel Charles Ronald "Ron" Lovett | 4 | | (Ret.) of Pensacola, Florida, who passed away on May 26, 2024; | 5 | | and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Ron Lovett was born to Charles Lovett and Lucille | 7 | | Brickey Lovett in Granite City, Illinois on November 7, 1948; | 8 | | he graduated from Jacksonville High School; he received his | 9 | | bachelor's degree from Illinois College and earned his | 10 | | master's degree from Troy University; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Ron Lovett served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force | 12 | | on active-duty for over 30 years; he later earned the honor of | 13 | | becoming the squadron commander for the 15th Special | 14 | | Operations Squadron (SOS), based in Hurlburt Field, Fort | 15 | | Walton Beach, Florida; he flew AC-130H Spectre gunships and | 16 | | later piloted the MC-130E Talon I and the MC-130H Talon II, and | 17 | | he acquired over 4,200 flying hours; he also served as a staff | 18 | | member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Ron Lovett was a recipient of the Bronze Star; he | 20 | | was also awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak | 21 | | leaf clusters, the Air Medal with an oak leaf cluster, the | 22 | | Vietnam Service Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Ron Lovett loved golfing and bowling; he enjoyed | 2 | | cheering for the Chicago Cubs, and he was fortunate to see the | 3 | | team win the 2016 World Series; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Ron Lovett was a dedicated, loving husband and a | 5 | | strong, supportive father for his two sons; he was | 6 | | affectionately known as "Papa" to his grandchildren; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, Ron Lovett was preceded in death by his parents; | 8 | | and | 9 | | WHEREAS, Ron Lovett is survived by his wife of 52 years, | 10 | | Janet Klusmeyer Lovett; his sons, Bryan (Cindy) Lovett and | 11 | | Will (Courtney) Lovett; his grandchildren, Meghan, Matthew, | 12 | | Britton, Reagan, Willow, and Zachary; his step-grandchildren, | 13 | | Dalton and Collin; and his sisters, Jean (Jim) Cook and Pat | 14 | | (Bill) Nebel; therefore, be it | 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 17 | | Colonel Charles Ronald "Ron" Lovett (Ret.) and extend our | 18 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | 19 | | and loved him; and be it further | 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
