| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Kato | 4 |
| Gilkey of Chicago, who passed away on March 12, 2010; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born on September 25, 1927 to Willie Gilkey | 6 |
| and Peggie Brewer Gilkey in Macon, Mississippi; he accepted | 7 |
| Christ in 1997; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, He attended school in McCloud and Macon, | 9 |
| Mississippi; he owned Gilkey Meat Market; he was employed by | 10 |
| the City of Chicago; and he retired from the Cook County | 11 |
| Highway Department; and
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, He served in the United States Army and received | 13 |
| an Honorable Discharge in 1945; and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, He enjoyed fishing, cooking, and farming; and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his son, Charles | 16 |
| Gilkey (Butch); and | 17 |
| WHEREAS, Kato Gilkey leaves to mourn, William Gilkey, | 18 |
| Lorene Falcen, and Mary Williams; his children, Margrett, | 19 |
| Willie, Kato Jr., Kelvin, Lavictory (Otis), Larry |

| (Antronette), Kenneth, and Michael (Beverly); his 25 | 2 |
| grandchildren; his 28 great-grandchildren; his best friend, | 3 |
| Curtis Carpenter; and a host of nieces and nephews; therefore, | 4 |
| be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 6 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 7 |
| mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Kato | 8 |
| Gilkey; and be it further
| 9 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 10 |
| presented to the family of Kato Gilkey as a symbol of our | 11 |
| sincere sympathy.
