| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Staff | 4 | | Sergeant Justus S. Bartelt of Polo, who gave his life defending | 5 | | America's freedom on July 16, 2010, in the Helmand province of | 6 | | southern Afghanistan; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Justus S. Bartelt was born on July 4, 1983 in | 8 | | Dixon, to Steve Bartelt and Jeannie Kyker; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Bartelt graduated in 2001 from Polo | 10 | | High School and joined the United States Marine Corps in June | 11 | | of 2001; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Bartelt was deployed to | 13 | | Afghanistan in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from March to | 14 | | October of 2005 and again from August of 2008 to March of 2009; | 15 | | he was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring | 16 | | Freedom in February of 2010; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Bartelt's awards and decorations | 18 | | include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Combat | 19 | | Action Ribbon, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Iraq | 20 | | Campaign Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the National | 21 | | Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism |

| 1 | | Expeditionary Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service | 2 | | Medal; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Bartelt will be missed by his | 4 | | parents, Steve Bartelt and Jeannie Kyker; his sisters, Shayann, | 5 | | Simber, and Kellen; as well as his fellow soldiers and the | 6 | | citizens of a grateful nation; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 8 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 9 | | we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of | 10 | | Staff Sergeant Justus S. Bartelt; and be it further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Staff Sergeant Justus | 12 | | S. Bartelt and his willingness to serve his country, which led | 13 | | to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further | 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 | | presented to the family of Staff Sergeant Justus S. Bartelt as | 16 | | a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
