| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Paris Donehoo on the | 4 | | occasion of his retirement as senior pastor of
the First | 5 | | Congregational Church of Elgin; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Paris Donehoo was born in Atlanta, Georgia on | 7 | | August 14, 1952 and raised in the
Georgia towns of Decatur and | 8 | | Roswell; he attended Kennesaw College and was ordained by the | 9 | | First Baptist Church of Roswell in December of 1973; he
| 10 | | received his Bachelor of Arts from Georgia Southern University | 11 | | in 1974 with a major in
history and a minor in journalism; he | 12 | | graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological
Seminary in | 13 | | 1977 with a Master of Divinity; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Paris Donehoo served as pastor of the Sardis
| 15 | | Baptist Church from 1977 until 1980, and then as pastor of the | 16 | | Lost Mountain Baptist Church until
1990; in 1988, he received a | 17 | | Doctor of Ministry from Columbia Theological
Seminary; from | 18 | | 1991 until 2000, he served as senior minister at Park Ridge | 19 | | Community Church
in Park Ridge; he briefly served as hospice | 20 | | chaplain for the West Suburban Hospital in
Oak Park and then | 21 | | returned to the pastorate in 2002 as senior pastor of
the First | 22 | | Congregational Church of Elgin, where he served until his | 23 | | retirement in 2018; for 11 years, he served as an adjunct |

| 1 | | professor in the Doctor of Ministry in Preaching
program at | 2 | | Chicago Theological Seminary; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Paris Donehoo is the author of Prayer in the Life | 4 | | of Jesus
and numerous articles in various magazines and | 5 | | journals such as Christian
Ministry, The Other Side, Eternity, | 6 | | and Christian Century; his upcoming book, Polarized:
| 7 | | Confronting the Collapse of Truth, Civility, and Community in | 8 | | Divided Times, is due in
the fall of 2018; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Paris Donehoo has two children from his first | 10 | | marriage, Meg Pfister and Kathryn Kennon, and two
stepchildren, | 11 | | Rachel Georgakis and Matthew Holihan, with his current wife, | 12 | | Penny; between
them they have six grandchildren; therefore, be | 13 | | it
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 15 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 16 | | congratulate Paris Donehoo on his retirement as senior pastor | 17 | | of
the First Congregational Church of Elgin, and we wish him | 18 | | the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution presented | 20 | | to Paris Donehoo as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
