| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, Central School in Des Plaines will celebrate its | 3 |
| 100th anniversary this year; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, In 1906 the original four-room school building was | 5 |
| located at Thacker and Center Streets in Des Plaines; the | 6 |
| school's former name was South Division School; during its | 7 |
| first year, 150 students were enrolled in four grades, the | 8 |
| first through the fourth grades; it was renamed Central School | 9 |
| in 1928; and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, In 1961, the school opened at its present location | 11 |
| at 1526 Thacker Street with a booming enrollment of nearly 500 | 12 |
| students in seven grades, Kindergarten through the sixth grade; | 13 |
| now in its Centennial Celebration Year, 235 students are | 14 |
| enrolled in six grades, Kindergarten through the fifth grade; | 15 |
| and
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Today, Central School maintains its commitment to | 17 |
| the highest standards of education; its staff educates students | 18 |
| in partnership with the students and their families, the school | 19 |
| system, and the community; and
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Central School develops student literacy in | 21 |
| communications, technology, the sciences, mathematics, foreign | 22 |
| language, fine arts, health, and physical education; it creates | 23 |
| a safe learning environment in which diversity is welcomed and | 24 |
| respected; and
| 25 |
| WHEREAS, Central School enables students to become | 26 |
| responsible citizens with life skills which they will use in | 27 |
| their adult roles at home, in the workplace, and in the | 28 |
| community; and
| 29 |
| WHEREAS, Central School is one of eleven schools in |

| Community Consolidated School District 62; the current | 2 |
| leadership consists of Mrs. Brenda Murphy, President of the | 3 |
| Board of Education, Dr. Jane Westerhold, Superintendent of | 4 |
| Schools, and Mr. Robert Kaszniak, Principal; therefore, be it
| 5 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 6 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 7 |
| we recognize the 100th anniversary of Central School in Des | 8 |
| Plaines; and be it further
| 9 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 10 |
| presented to Central School and to Community Consolidated | 11 |
| School District 62 as an expression of our esteem.
