| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of
Bishop DeArmond Southern Mathews, who | 4 | | passed away on February 28, 2011; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, DeArmond Mathews graduated from Thornton Township | 6 | | High School in Harvey; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, DeArmond Mathews served his country with pride and | 8 | | distinction as a member of the United States Army for five | 9 | | years until his discharge in 1970; he loved his overseas tours | 10 | | he undertook in the Army because they fulfilled his desires for | 11 | | adventure; during weekend leave, he met his soulmate for life, | 12 | | Rhonda Mathews, whom he married on February 26, 1970; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, DeArmond Mathews accepted Christ at an early age | 14 | | and rededicated his life to accepting God's purpose and plan | 15 | | for his life in 1991; trusting in God to direct their paths, | 16 | | Bishop Mathews, his wife, and his son accepted the call and | 17 | | began to be led by the Holy Spirit; he served as Pastor and | 18 | | Overseer of Jehovah Jireh Ministries at the time of his | 19 | | passing; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, DeArmond Mathews was preceded in death by his | 21 | | parents, Elder Carson Bullard Mathews, Sr. and Evangelist |

| 1 | | Maxine Faith Mathews; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, DeArmond Mathews is survived by his loving wife of | 3 | | 41 years, Apostle Rhonda Mathews; his children, LaTanya Law, | 4 | | DeMeica, DeArmond (Courtney), and DeAndre; his grandsons, | 5 | | William, Christian, DeArmond III, Carson Ballard Mathews, and | 6 | | Daniel; his granddaughters, Christa, Elizabeth, Karrington, | 7 | | and Alexis; his sisters, Maxine Dabbs (Lonnie), Faith Johnson, | 8 | | Marion Smith, Leontine Walton, and Dawn Baker; and his brother, | 9 | | Thaddeus Mathews (Lourene); therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 12 | | his family and friends, the passing of Bishop DeArmond Southern | 13 | | Mathews; and be it further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 | | presented to the family of DeArmond Mathews as an expression of | 16 | | our sympathy.
