| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The official 150th celebration of the founding of | 3 | | the Village of Noble will take place August 11, 2012; Noble was | 4 | | officially chartered in 1862 by the State of Illinois; Noble is | 5 | | located in Richland County, 7 miles west of the county seat of | 6 | | Olney and 30 miles southeast of Effingham, straddling the | 7 | | railroad and adjacent to the coast-to-coast U.S. Route 50; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The Village of Noble, population 675, was founded | 9 | | in 1853 by Lemuel Truitt, who came from Lawrence County; he was | 10 | | a progressive individual who worked to establish a prosperous | 11 | | community after the village and surrounding land were deeded to | 12 | | him by then President Fillmore in 1853; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, The first church established was of the Baptist | 14 | | denomination, followed shortly by a Methodist Church and a | 15 | | Church of Christ or Christian Church; the Village of Noble has | 16 | | always maintained a strong faith in God; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Noble was a prosperous community through its early | 18 | | years, with businesses such as a flour mill, general | 19 | | merchantiles, banks, hotels, apple evaporators, a doctor, a | 20 | | dentist, a hatchery, a car dealership, an auto repair garage, | 21 | | gas stations, a livery, a post office, taverns, a pool hall, an | 22 | | ice house, a railroad station and depot, and oil production; |

| 1 | | when the oil production declined, the village population went | 2 | | down, with many of the children of residents choosing to locate | 3 | | elsewhere when they reached adulthood; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Noble is proud of the many individuals who grew up | 5 | | in and around the village and went to other parts of the | 6 | | country (and the world), including educators, nurses, | 7 | | engineers, accountants, farmers, doctors, scientific | 8 | | professionals, artists, musicians, military personnel, and | 9 | | other professional and business people who still consider Noble | 10 | | "home," a testimonial to the lessons learned and the solid | 11 | | family structure that produced such fine citizens; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Noble continues to be a viable, rural community at | 13 | | a time when small towns are declining and disappearing across | 14 | | the country; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Noble citizens have always been willing and able | 16 | | to perform their patriotic duties; many men and women have | 17 | | served in the Armed Services and, upon leaving the service, | 18 | | have had an impact on the community; therefore, be it
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 20 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 21 | | we congratulate the citizens of the Village of Noble on the | 22 | | occasion of the 150th anniversary of the community; and be it |
