| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Lawrence Ferry, who passed away on August | 4 | | 9, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Lawrence Ferry was born to Ray and Mae Ferry on | 6 | | February 12, 1921; he graduated from Waukegan Township High | 7 | | School in 1939, after a standout career in high school | 8 | | football; in his senior year, he was named "Mayor for a Day" | 9 | | and kidded about how that day helped him realized he should | 10 | | avoid politics; he later played football for the Lake County | 11 | | Merchants, a semi-professional team, and remembered those days | 12 | | fondly; he married Mary Zannini on June 3, 1952; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Lawrence Ferry proudly served in the United States | 14 | | Army, European Theater, during World War II; he was awarded | 15 | | several combat medals, including the Bronze Star for saving | 16 | | three of his men; he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Lawrence Ferry was a Teamster and worked for | 18 | | Meadow Gold Dairy for 37 years; he later worked at St. Therese | 19 | | Hospital (now Vista West); and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Lawrence Ferry was a lifetime member of the | 21 | | American Legion Homer Dahringer Post 281; he enjoyed working |

| 1 | | with his hands and happily helped family, friends, and | 2 | | neighbors with household projects; he and Mary traveled | 3 | | extensively by car, especially to Florida, Colorado, Montana, | 4 | | and Texas to visit their children and grandchildren; they took | 5 | | the trip of a lifetime to Italy for their 40th anniversary; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Lawrence Ferry lived a long, rich life and looked | 7 | | out for people who were less fortunate; his family and friends | 8 | | miss his storytelling and hearty laugh; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Lawrence Ferry was preceded in death by his | 10 | | parents; his stepmother, Sal; his daughter, Patt (the late | 11 | | Nels) Nizer; his brothers, Clyde (the late Barbara) and Paul; | 12 | | his brothers-in-law, Gene (the late Eileen) Zannini and Dr. | 13 | | John (the late Frances) Zannini; and his special cousin, Dr. | 14 | | Thomas (the late Marifred) Jackson; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Lawrence Ferry is survived by his loving wife of | 16 | | 65 years, Mary; his children, Marty (Ed) Biondi, Linda, Paul | 17 | | (Sherre), and Jane; his grandchildren, John, Mike, Kate, Mike, | 18 | | and Dave (Shalee); his great-granddaughter, Darkis; and his | 19 | | many nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it
| 20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 21 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 22 | | Lawrence Ferry and extend our sincere condolences to his |
