| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of John A. Patterson of Farmington, who | 4 | | passed away on April 19, 2014; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Patterson was born in Canton on October 20, | 6 | | 1943, the son of Florence and Larry Horton, and Dr. John H. | 7 | | Patterson; he attended Canton schools and graduated from Normal | 8 | | Community High School; he attended Canton College and earned | 9 | | his bachelor's degree in education from Western Illinois | 10 | | University (WIU) in 1965 and his master's degree in educational | 11 | | administration from WIU in 1973; he married Cynthia Hayduk on | 12 | | August 1, 1964 at the Methodist Church in Canton; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, John Patterson spent his career in education and | 14 | | worked at public schools in Smithfield, Cuba, Eldorado, and | 15 | | Farmington; he retired in 1994 after 21 years as an elementary | 16 | | and junior high school principal; he continued to work | 17 | | part-time with the alternative school program in the | 18 | | Fulton/Schulyer Regional Office of Education; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, John Patterson enjoyed traveling, golfing, | 20 | | fishing, playing cards, and spending time with family and | 21 | | friends; he belonged to many organizations including the | 22 | | Illinois and Fulton County Retired Teachers Associations, the |

| 1 | | Illinois Principals Association, the local, State, and | 2 | | national Parent-Teacher Association, the AARP, Farmington | 3 | | Moose Lodge #1571, the Fulton County Farm Bureau, the West | 4 | | Central Association for Supervision and Curriculum | 5 | | Development, the Farmington Rotary Club, the Farmington | 6 | | Academic Foundation Board, the Century Investment Club, and the | 7 | | Maple Lane Country Club; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, John Patterson was preceded in death by his | 9 | | parents, and by a brother, Chris; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, John Patterson is survived by his wife of 49 | 11 | | years, Cynthia; 2 children, John C. (Tricia) Patterson and | 12 | | Jennifer Patterson; 4 grandchildren, Sam and Owen Patterson and | 13 | | Mia and Ava Allen; 2 sisters, Lee Ann (Jack) Bennie and Cindy | 14 | | Horton; and 5 brothers, Ben (Sandy), Joe (Beth), Jim (Barbara), | 15 | | Tom (Sharon), and Bob (Donna) Patterson; therefore, be it
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 18 | | John A. Patterson, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 19 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 20 | | further
