| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Edie Jane Wittenberg of Strasburg, who | 4 | | passed away on July 10, 2024; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Edie Wittenberg, the daughter of John Barry | 6 | | Wittenberg and Courtney Lyn (Hooten) Wittenberg, was born in | 7 | | Mattoon on June 3, 2010; she was an active member of St. Paul's | 8 | | Lutheran Church; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, Edie Wittenberg was dedicated to improving her | 10 | | athletic skills, and she was a member of the Rapid Fire | 11 | | volleyball team and the Mattoon Pride softball team; she was | 12 | | looking forward to debuting on the volleyball, softball, | 13 | | track, and basketball teams at Stewardson-Strasburg High | 14 | | School; and | 15 | | WHEREAS, Edie Wittenberg enjoyed performing TikTok dances | 16 | | with her sister, competing against her brothers in any and | 17 | | every sport, loudly singing lyrics to every song she heard, | 18 | | tanning, and traveling and boating with family and friends; | 19 | | and | 20 | | WHEREAS, Edie Wittenberg radiated a pure love for her | 21 | | life, her faith, her family, and her friends; she was a driven, |

| 1 | | determined, and ambitious soul who possessed a contagious | 2 | | smile, a compassionate and humble heart, and an electric | 3 | | energy that brought everyone joy; she always saw the good in | 4 | | everyone and every situation, and she will be remembered for | 5 | | touching the lives of everybody around her; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Edie Wittenberg was preceded in death by her | 7 | | infant brother, Andrew Barry Wittenberg; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, Edie Wittenberg is survived by her parents; her | 9 | | brothers, Jordan John Wittenberg and Austin James Wittenberg; | 10 | | her sister, Ellie Lyn Wittenberg; her paternal grandparents, | 11 | | John Wittenberg and Judy Wittenberg; her maternal | 12 | | grandparents, Jim Hooten and Sally Hooten; her aunts, Sara | 13 | | (Kenneth) Hayes and Casey (Dillon) Harley; her uncles, Greg | 14 | | (Ali) Hooten and Brad (Amy) Hooten; and her cousins, Hannah | 15 | | Hayes, Natalie Hayes, Samantha Hayes, Kendra Hayes, Mia | 16 | | Harley, Max Harley, Myles Harley, Mitchell Hooten, Owen | 17 | | Hooten, and Noah Hooten; therefore, be it | 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 20 | | Edie Jane Wittenberg and extend our sincere condolences to her | 21 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 22 | | further |
