| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Edward | 4 | | Joseph "Ed" Klein of Peoria, who passed away on February 2, | 5 | | 2019; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Ed Klein was born in Peoria to Erwin and Louise | 7 | | Klein on January 5, 1923; he graduated from the Spalding | 8 | | Institute in Peoria; he attended Bradley University, where he | 9 | | earned his bachelor's degree in English in 1948; he married | 10 | | Dolores Gibson on May 23, 1952; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Ed Klein spent most of his career working as an | 12 | | advertising copywriter at the Hall, Haerr, Peterson & Harney | 13 | | Inc. Agency in Peoria; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Ed Klein was a tireless worker for the cause of | 15 | | civil rights and was instrumental in founding the Truth Corps, | 16 | | which later became the Peoria Chapter of the NAACP; he also | 17 | | proudly supported feminism and served as the interim president | 18 | | of Peoria's NOW Chapter; he wrote many letters to the editors | 19 | | of local newsletters and newspapers whenever he felt a voice | 20 | | needed to be heard; in addition, he and Dolores helped raise | 21 | | many foster children over their years together; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Ed Klein enjoyed traveling the back roads of the | 2 | | Midwest with his wife and discovering out-of-the-way parks, | 3 | | waterways, and small town cafes; he made it a point to keep up | 4 | | with new products and emerging technology and was always eager | 5 | | to try new gadgets or products; he was a handyman who was not | 6 | | afraid to take on household projects, even if they were beyond | 7 | | his skill set; he was an avid reader with a sense of humor, a | 8 | | clever wit, and an insatiable desire to learn; he will be | 9 | | remembered as a gentleman with a sweet spirit; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Ed Klein was preceded in death by his parents; his | 11 | | wife, Dolores Klein; his son, Christopher Klein; his grandson, | 12 | | William Klein; and his brothers, Dick Klein and Jerry Klein; | 13 | | and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Ed Klein is survived by his daughters, Christina | 15 | | (Pat) Puntoni and Paula Klein; his sons, Tim (Debbie) Klein, | 16 | | Evan Klein, and Marty (Barbara) Klein; his sister, Sue Klein; | 17 | | his ten grandchildren; and his ten great-grandchildren; | 18 | | therefore, be it
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 20 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 21 | | we mourn the passing of Edward Joseph "Ed" Klein and extend our | 22 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | 23 | | and loved him; and be it further
