| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are pleased to honor and congratulate Tyra Buss | 4 | | for her academic and athletic accomplishments while enrolled at | 5 | | Mt. Carmel High School in Mt. Carmel; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Kelly and Tim Buss welcomed Tyra's birth in Mt. | 7 | | Carmel on April 25, 1996; on this day, Kelly was scheduled to | 8 | | coach a track and field meet for the Mt. Carmel High School | 9 | | team, but instead gave birth to her only daughter, who would go | 10 | | on to become the school's most decorated student-athlete; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, In 2013, Tyra Buss became the first player in | 12 | | Illinois High School History to score 3,000 career points by | 13 | | the end of their junior season; she led the 2012-13 Lady Aces | 14 | | to become the first basketball team in Mt. Carmel High School | 15 | | history to go undefeated during the regular season, and became | 16 | | the all-time State of Illinois career leading free throw | 17 | | shooter; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Tyra Buss has achieved numerous Illinois all-time | 19 | | records in girls basketball, including most
points scored in a | 20 | | season (1,466), most points scored in a career (4,897), most | 21 | | free throws made in a
career (1,185), highest scoring average | 22 | | in a career (38.0), highest scoring average in a season (45.8),

| 1 | | most field goals made in a season (512), and most field goals | 2 | | made in a career (1,644); and | 3 | | WHEREAS, In 2014, Tyra Buss was named to the Parade High | 4 | | School All-American Team and was designated as Illinois
| 5 | | Gatorade Player of the Year; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Tyra Buss has attained national girls basketball | 7 | | all-time records, including being 2nd in
points scored in a | 8 | | career, 2nd in free throws made in a career, 2nd in field goals | 9 | | made in a career,
3rd in free throws made in a season, 4th in | 10 | | most free throws made in a season, 4th in most
points made in a | 11 | | season, 5th in career points per game average, and 5th in | 12 | | season points per game
average; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, In 2014, Tyra Buss was named to the First Team | 14 | | All-State by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association for | 15 | | the 4th straight year; and | 16 | | WHEREAS, The Chicago Tribune, in conjunction with the | 17 | | Illinois Basketball Coaches Association, chose Tyra Buss as the | 18 | | 2014 Illinois Ms. Basketball, her second consecutive year | 19 | | holding this title; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Tyra Buss scored 1,466 points, 215 steals, 114 | 21 | | assists, and 175 rebounds for the Aces during her senior year; |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, In addition to basketball, Tyra Buss received 4 | 3 | | varsity letters in each of 3 additional
sports she participated | 4 | | in during her high school career, tennis, track, and cross | 5 | | country; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, During her senior year of high school, Tyra Buss | 7 | | dedicated herself to being her best both on and off the court; | 8 | | she currently maintains a perfect 5.0 GPA at Mt. Carmel High | 9 | | School; therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 11 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 12 | | we congratulate Tyra Buss on her athletic and academic | 13 | | accomplishments; and be it further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 15 | | presented to Tyra Buss and Mt. Carmel High School as a symbol | 16 | | of our respect and esteem.
