| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Patricia | 4 |
| Makris, Executive Director of the Children's Center of | 5 |
| Cicero/Berwyn; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, She was the Executive Director of The Children's | 7 |
| Center of Cicero/Berwyn since 1978; she dedicated her efforts, | 8 |
| as an advocate, for the children and parents of Cicero and | 9 |
| Berwyn; under her direction, the Children's Center grew from a | 10 |
| single site in the Grant Works neighborhood of Cicero to nine | 11 |
| separate sites serving over 1,500 families in Cicero and | 12 |
| Berwyn; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Beginning with a lone after-school day care | 14 |
| program, the agency currently offers Early Head Start, Head | 15 |
| Start, Preschool daycare, Infant-toddler daycare, Teen Parent | 16 |
| Training, At-risk Pre-kindergarten, Parent Education, Training | 17 |
| for At-home day care providers, and Parent & Child Programs; | 18 |
| and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Patricia Makris was recognized nationwide for her | 20 |
| expertise in infant, child, teen, and parent advocacy, and for | 21 |
| her professional contributions in the field of early childhood | 22 |
| development, day care, and not-for-profit, community agency |

| management; over the years, she appeared as the keynote speaker | 2 |
| at countless educational conferences; and | 3 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. Makris' selfless efforts earned her unequaled | 4 |
| recognition and numerous community service awards; she served | 5 |
| the Cicero Rotary Club in many capacities, most recently, as | 6 |
| Vocational Service Director; she was also a member of the | 7 |
| Cicero Youth Task Force among other agencies and organizations; | 8 |
| and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Patricia Makris was the worthy recipient of awards | 10 |
| from organizations such as the Women's Business Development | 11 |
| Center, the Cicero Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Cicero | 12 |
| Youth Task Force, the Towns of Cicero and Berwyn, and many | 13 |
| more; she also received the Jack Kubik Humanitarian Award from | 14 |
| Seguin RCA, and Outstanding Executive Director Award from | 15 |
| George Williams College; and
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Patricia Makris attended the University of | 17 |
| Illinois and Western Michigan University, earning a B.S Degree | 18 |
| in Education; she was awarded an MBA from Roosevelt University; | 19 |
| she began her teaching career in the inner-city and at Plato | 20 |
| Greek School in Chicago; in addition, she taught for Cicero | 21 |
| School District #99 at Roosevelt School; and she took her | 22 |
| educational talents to Greece for several years, where she | 23 |
| taught English; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 2 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 3 |
| mourn, along with the many lives she touched, the passing of | 4 |
| Patricia Makris; and be it further
| 5 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 6 |
| presented to the family of Patricia Makris as a symbol of our | 7 |
| sincere sympathy.
