| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Proper dental care is a vital health concern that | 3 | | is overlooked by or unavailable to many Americans; a lack of | 4 | | routine oral health care can lead to serious consequences, | 5 | | including severe tooth decay, gum disease, and potentially | 6 | | deadly infections; unchecked dental problems can also increase | 7 | | the risk of serious and chronic health conditions, such as | 8 | | diabetes and heart disease; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, In June of 2012, United States Senator Bernie | 10 | | Sanders (VT) introduced the Comprehensive Dental Reform Act of | 11 | | 2012 into the Senate; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, The Comprehensive Dental Reform Act of 2012 seeks | 13 | | to end the oral health crisis in America by expanding coverage, | 14 | | creating new access points, enhancing the workforce, improving | 15 | | education, and funding new research; the Act would extend | 16 | | comprehensive dental health insurance to millions of Americans | 17 | | who do not have coverage today, while increasing both the | 18 | | number of places that would accept such coverage and the number | 19 | | of qualified oral health care professionals in communities with | 20 | | the greatest need for them; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, The Comprehensive Dental Reform Act of 2012 would | 22 | | also address the need to educate current and future oral health |

| 1 | | care providers to better serve vulnerable populations and to | 2 | | integrate oral health care into overall health care, as well as | 3 | | authorize greater amounts of funding for research on prevention | 4 | | and disease management techniques to improve oral health care | 5 | | delivery and the oral health status of the nation; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The passage of the Comprehensive Dental Reform Act | 7 | | of 2012 would be a step in the proper direction of ensuring | 8 | | that all Americans can receive the quality, consistent health | 9 | | care that they deserve; therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 11 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 12 | | we urge the President and Congress to pass H. 3272, the | 13 | | Comprehensive Dental Reform Act of 2012; and be it further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 15 | | delivered to the Speaker and Minority Leader of the United | 16 | | States House of Representatives, the Majority and Minority | 17 | | Leaders of the United States Senate, and the President of the | 18 | | United States.
