| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate the citizens of | 4 |
| Lindenwood, an unincorporated community in Ogle county, as they | 5 |
| celebrate the community's 175th anniversary; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, William Campbell is credited with building the | 7 |
| first log cabin in 1835 near what is now Lindenwood; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, A group of permanent settlers arrived in the area | 9 |
| in 1840, taking advantage of government land grants; many of | 10 |
| the settlers had fought in the Revolutionary War or the War of | 11 |
| 1812 and were given tracts of land in payment for their service | 12 |
| to their country; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, The community has been the center of economic | 14 |
| activity in the area, supporting various manufacturing, | 15 |
| retail, and agricultural activities over the decades; and
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, The Great Western Railroad brought commerce to | 17 |
| Lindenwood and transported residents to a wider world; and | 18 |
| WHEREAS, Residents supported the education of children | 19 |
| with seven neighborhood schools by 1885; and |

| WHEREAS, The county schools were consolidated into one | 2 |
| district in 1949; the schools combined with the Esmond Schools, | 3 |
| forming Eswood in 1972; the name "Eswood" was chosen by the | 4 |
| children of the school; today the Eswood School is a leader in | 5 |
| recycling, education, and renewable energy; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, The community has worked with the Lynn-Scott-Rock | 7 |
| Fire Protection District to protect lives and property since | 8 |
| 1950, continually improving equipment, and benefiting from the | 9 |
| skill and generosity of its volunteers; and | 10 |
| WHEREAS, Lindenwood residents are preparing to celebrate | 11 |
| this milestone with a published volume about the history of a | 12 |
| prairie town, a parade, dinner, and other activities; | 13 |
| therefore, be it
| 14 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 15 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 16 |
| congratulate the citizens of Lindenwood and wish them continued | 17 |
| success in all they do; and be it further
| 18 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 19 |
| presented to the citizens of Lindenwood as a symbol of our | 20 |
| respect and esteem.
