| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Suzzanna M. Hubert of Champaign, who | 4 | | passed away on May 10, 2020; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Suzzanna Hubert was born in Urbana to Blake and | 6 | | Nancy A. (Ewing) Hubert on January 16, 1983; she graduated from | 7 | | Centennial High School in Champaign and then backpacked across | 8 | | Germany and also visited cities in Austria; she attended the | 9 | | University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Southern Illinois | 10 | | University; she enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2010 as an FC | 11 | | (fire control-radar and missiles) and became a petty officer | 12 | | third class upon graduating from boot camp; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Suzzanna Hubert was attached to her first ship, | 14 | | the USS Anchorage, in New Orleans during the final completion | 15 | | stages of its construction; her ship had the unique experience | 16 | | of retrieving the test launch of the space capsule Orion EFT-1; | 17 | | she helped track the descent of the capsule and watched the | 18 | | splashdown and recovery from the deck of the ship; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Suzzanna Hubert's ship was deployed to the Middle | 20 | | East; it made stops in Thailand, where she rode an elephant, | 21 | | Israel, where she visited Jerusalem, Jordan, where she was | 22 | | re-baptized in the River Jordan, and Petra; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Suzzanna Hubert crossed the equator numerous | 2 | | times, becoming a "turtleback"; she was promoted through the | 3 | | ranks to petty officer first class and qualified for chief | 4 | | petty officer in 2020; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Suzzanna Hubert was proud to receive her | 6 | | bachelor's degree in history and was planning to teach history | 7 | | at the college level after retiring from the Navy; she | 8 | | discovered a love for teaching while she served at the Great | 9 | | Lakes Naval Base Center for Surface Combat Systems as a master | 10 | | training specialist; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Suzzanna Hubert loved photography and taking | 12 | | photos of sites around the world; she also loved hiking and | 13 | | visiting national parks and had already visited over 50 | 14 | | national parks and monuments; she enjoyed running, completing | 15 | | 5Ks in numerous cities; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Suzzanna Hubert is survived by her parents; her | 17 | | sisters, Jennifer M. Roland and Lauren P. Hubert; her | 18 | | brother-in-law, Stephen Roland; her nephews, Ethan and Owen | 19 | | Roland; eight aunts and uncles; and nine cousins; therefore, be | 20 | | it

| 1 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 2 | | Suzzanna M. Hubert and extend our sincere condolences to her | 3 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 4 | | further
| 5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 6 | | presented to the family of Suzzanna Hubert as an expression of | 7 | | our deepest sympathy.
