| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Michael Kotzin of Highland Park, who | 4 | | passed away on October 18, 2015; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Michael Kotzin was born in Chicago; he graduated | 6 | | from Sullivan High School and received his bachelor's degree | 7 | | from the University of Chicago and his doctorate from the | 8 | | University of Minnesota; he served in the Israeli army after | 9 | | being drafted for the 1973 Yom Kippur War; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Michael Kotzin joined the Anti-Defamation League | 11 | | (ADL) in Atlanta, Georgia in 1979; 2 years later, he became | 12 | | Regional Director in Columbus, Ohio, and then in 1983, he | 13 | | returned to Chicago to head the ADL office; he spent the last | 14 | | 25 years with the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of | 15 | | Metropolitan Chicago, first as Executive Director of the | 16 | | organization's Jewish Community Relations Council and then as | 17 | | Executive Vice-President; later, he served as a special | 18 | | consultant to the President; his involvement in Jewish and | 19 | | Zionist organizations came after he spent 11 years teaching | 20 | | English literature at Tel Aviv University in Israel; and

| 3 | | WHEREAS, Michael Kotzin is survived by his wife, Judith; | 4 | | his daughter, Abigail Kotzin; his sons, Daniel and Joshua; his | 5 | | sister, Morissa Amitai; and his 8 grandchildren; therefore, be | 6 | | it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | Michael Kotzin, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 10 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 11 | | further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the family of Michael Kotzin as an expression of | 14 | | our deepest sympathy.
