| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Zarouhe "Zari" Maurstad of Waukegan, who | 4 | | passed away on December 17, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Zari Maurstad was born in Waukegan to Andon and | 6 | | Nevrig Margoian on May 23, 1923 and was a life-long resident; | 7 | | after graduating from high school, she worked at the Great | 8 | | Lakes Naval Base post office until the end of World War II; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Zari Maurstad was employed at Heins Department | 10 | | Store throughout the late 1940s and 1950s; as her children | 11 | | grew, she continued to work outside the home, retiring in 1982 | 12 | | from Grand Gardens; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Zari Maurstad was an active member of the St. | 14 | | George Armenian Church, first as a choir member, and later, as | 15 | | a member of the Ladies' Guild; she enjoyed traveling, a good | 16 | | cup of coffee, a glass of wine each evening, the Chicago Cubs, | 17 | | crossword puzzles, collecting cookbooks, and cooking and | 18 | | baking, in particular the Armenian dishes she learned to make | 19 | | with her mother; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Zari Maurstad was preceded in death by her | 21 | | parents; her husband of 58 years, Gordon; and her sister, Helen |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, Zari Maurstad is survived by her children, Karen | 3 | | Kunesh (Edward) and Eric Maurstad; her grandchildren, Evan, | 4 | | Kara, and Zari Kunesh; her sisters-in-law, Donna Mundy and | 5 | | Harriet Scharmer; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be | 6 | | it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | Zarouhe "Zari" Maurstad, and extend our sincere condolences to | 10 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 11 | | further
