| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of William C. Otten Sr., a lifelong resident | 4 | | of Rock Island, who passed away on January 12, 2017 at the age | 5 | | of 89; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, William Otten was born in Rock Island to Edward | 7 | | and Mary Gillespie Otten on September 5, 1927; he married Rita | 8 | | Smith at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rock Island on June | 9 | | 12, 1948; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, William Otten was a veteran of the United States | 11 | | Army and served during World War II; he was a member of St. | 12 | | Pius X Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus; he also | 13 | | belonged to the Bricklayers Union Local 7 in Rock Island, for | 14 | | 70 years; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, William Otten will be remembered for his love of | 16 | | cards and the Chicago Cubs, his jokes, and his smiling face; | 17 | | his love of family was very important to him and he was very | 18 | | proud of them; he was an inspiration to all that knew him, had | 19 | | a kind word for others, and was always willing to help; he will | 20 | | be missed by all; and

| 3 | | WHEREAS, William Otten is survived by his wife of 68 years, | 4 | | Rita Otten; his children and their spouses, Mary Kay (Fran) | 5 | | Glidewell, William (Lori) Otten Jr., Patricia (Richard) | 6 | | Requet, Larry (Dionne) Otten, and Jim (Lori) Otten; his 14 | 7 | | grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two | 8 | | great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
