| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives have
learned with great sadness of the passing | 4 | | of activist, educator, and public official
Barbara Brown; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Barb Brown, as she was very fondly known, left a | 6 | | lasting legacy
during her career that mentored hundreds of | 7 | | students from across the world,
worked tirelessly for a wide | 8 | | range of candidates for public office, important
public policy | 9 | | goals, and many community causes; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Barb, widely published in her field, taught with | 11 | | distinction at
Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and | 12 | | for four decades she added to the
celebration of faith for | 13 | | parishioners from the keyboard of the organ at St. Mary's
| 14 | | Catholic Church in Ellis Grove; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, She will be admired and remembered as a loving | 16 | | daughter, sister,
mother, wife, and grandmother; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Barb worked with unmatched dedication on the | 18 | | election of
numerous candidates including President Obama and | 19 | | President Clinton; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, She was elected nine times as a delegate to her |

| 1 | | party's national
convention and four times as Randolph County | 2 | | Circuit Court Clerk; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, She is remembered as the former head of Illinois | 4 | | Democratic
Women and a co-founder and former President of the | 5 | | Illinois Women's Institute for
Leadership; she spearheaded the | 6 | | Randolph County Relay For Life to fight for a cure
for the | 7 | | cancer that she battled twice in her life; therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 9 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 10 | | express our profound sympathies and hopes for comfort and | 11 | | strength for Barb Brown's husband, Richard, and their children | 12 | | and spouses, Jay and Gabriella, Matthew and Ann, and Nathaniel; | 13 | | and to her grandchildren and siblings; and be it further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 | | presented to the family of Barb Brown as an expression of our | 16 | | deepest sympathies.
