| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. J. David Arnold on the | 4 | | occasion of his retirement as President of Eureka College and | 5 | | his promotion to Chancellor; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Arnold has served as President of Eureka | 7 | | College for 11 years; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Arnold's accomplishments as President include | 9 | | numerous campus
improvements, a new residence hall, balanced | 10 | | budgets, increased alumni support, and creation of
the Reagan | 11 | | Forward initiative, which has brought guest lecturers such as | 12 | | Justice Sandra Day
O'Connor and former Soviet President Mikhail | 13 | | Gorbachev to the school; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Prior to joining Eureka College, Dr. Arnold was a | 15 | | professor and administrator at St. Lawrence
University, | 16 | | Clarion University, St. John Fisher College, and Missouri | 17 | | Western State College; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Arnold is a native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, | 19 | | and was the first
in his family to graduate from college; he | 20 | | and his wife, Katherine, have three children and twin | 21 | | granddaughters; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Eureka College was founded in 1855 and is the
alma | 2 | | mater of Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States; it | 3 | | was the first college in Illinois, and the third in the
United | 4 | | States to admit both men and women; therefore, be it
| 5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 6 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 7 | | congratulate Dr. J. David Arnold on his retirement as President | 8 | | of Eureka College and his promotion to Chancellor, and we wish | 9 | | him the best as he takes on his new duties; and be it further
| 10 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 11 | | presented to Dr. Arnold as an expression of our esteem and | 12 | | respect.
