| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Deacon Jack M. Kettering of Rock Island, | 4 | | who passed away on June 16, 2020; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jack Kettering was born in Rock Island on August | 6 | | 8, 1932; at 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in | 7 | | Korea; after his service, he finished high school and went on | 8 | | to attend St. Ambrose College on the GI Bill; Jack married | 9 | | Marian Leenknecht on May 4, 1957; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Jack Kettering became a mail carrier for the U.S. | 11 | | Postal Service and often carried additional jobs to support his | 12 | | growing family;
when the Permanent Diaconate was established, | 13 | | Jack was called to serve the Diocese of Peoria and was ordained | 14 | | on November 18, 1979; he engaged in jail and hospital ministry, | 15 | | coordinated religious education programs, visited shut-ins, | 16 | | delivered homilies, and assisted at Mass; later in life, Jack | 17 | | deeply enjoyed working as the maintenance Supervisor at the | 18 | | Circa '21 theater; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, In his middle age, Jack Kettering developed a | 20 | | passion for running and completed his first marathon at the age | 21 | | of 45; he loved road races, marathons, and triathlons and was | 22 | | even invited to compete in the Ironman Competition; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Jack Kettering was preceded in death by his | 2 | | parents; his brother, Dick Kettering; his son, Stephen; his | 3 | | daughter, Katherine; and his granddaughter, Heather; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Jack Kettering is survived by his wife, Marian; | 5 | | his brother, Donald; his sons, Joe (Rose), Tom (Kim), and John | 6 | | (Don); his daughter, Jane; his eight grandchildren; his six | 7 | | great-grandchildren; and his great-grandchild who is on the | 8 | | way; therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| 11 | | Deacon Jack M. Kettering and extend our sincere
condolences to | 12 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it | 13 | | further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| 15 | | presented to the family of Jack Kettering as an expression of
