| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, William E. Kappmeyer was born on March 13, 1918, | 3 |
| in Oelwein, Iowa; he attended grade school in Oelwein and | 4 |
| graduated first from Oelwein High School and then Wartburg | 5 |
| College in Waverly, Iowa, in 1940; while attending Wartburg | 6 |
| College, he was a letterman in basketball and baseball, | 7 |
| starting every game in both sports and serving as captain of | 8 |
| both teams during his senior year; he was the Knights leading | 9 |
| scorer in basketball his senior year and the leading hitter on | 10 |
| the baseball team all four years; he was inducted into | 11 |
| Wartburg's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999; and
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Kappmeyer served in the U.S. Navy during World | 13 |
| War II as a Chief Specialist; he received seven letters of | 14 |
| commendation for outstanding service to the Navy; while he was | 15 |
| in the Navy, he met a young lady by the name of Evelyn | 16 |
| Johnstone; Evelyn says that when she was getting to know Bill, | 17 |
| he suggested that she joined the Navy to find a husband; | 18 |
| quick-witted Evelyn told Bill if that was really her reason for | 19 |
| joining the Navy, she may have made a mistake because "the | 20 |
| selection" wasn't too good; and

| WHEREAS, Evelyn Johnstone and William Kappmeyer were | 22 |
| married on December 9, 1944; they later became parents to two | 23 |
| children, Pam and Kurt; the Kappmeyers will celebrate their | 24 |
| 62nd wedding anniversary this year; and
| 25 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Kappmeyer received his masters degree in 1948 | 26 |
| from the University of Pittsburgh; when he was teaching in | 27 |
| Iowa, he was called upon to develop the drivers education | 28 |
| program for that state; in 1955, he accepted a position with | 29 |
| Lockport High School, where he taught biology, drivers | 30 |
| education, and was head coach of varsity baseball; in 1963, he | 31 |
| became the athletic director at Lockport West High School (now | 32 |
| Romeoville High School); Bill and Evelyn moved into their "new" |

| home on Maplewood in Bolingbrook on March 3, 1970; and
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, In 1974, when Bolingbrook High School opened, Bill | 3 |
| Kappmeyer accepted a position as Dean of Students; he retired | 4 |
| from BHS in 1983; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, In 1987, Mr. Kappmeyer joined the Village of | 6 |
| Bolingbrook's Fire and Police Board and still serves on that | 7 |
| commission; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, In 1988, He was named Bolingbrook's Male Citizen | 9 |
| of the Year; and | 10 |
| WHEREAS, In 2000, he was the Grand Marshall of the | 11 |
| Pathway's Parade; and
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, While Bill Kappmeyer has the title of the "Oldest | 13 |
| Man in Bolingbrook", he is also "Young at Heart"; therefore, be | 14 |
| it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 16 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 17 |
| we congratulate Bill Kappmeyer on his life's accomplishments | 18 |
| and thank him for the dedication to his country and community | 19 |
| over the years; and be it further
| 20 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 21 |
| presented to Mr. Kappmeyer as an expression of our esteem.
