| 2 | | WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the | 3 | | Illinois House of Representatives wish to commend and | 4 | | congratulate Reverend Oscar Walden, Jr. on the celebration of | 5 | | the opening of The Oscar Walden, Jr. Exhibit on Wrongful | 6 | | Convictions; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The Oscar Walden, Jr. Exhibit on Wrongful | 8 | | Convictions will be held on Thursday, October 4th, 2012, from | 9 | | 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at The Chicago Theological Seminary; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, In 1952, Rev. Oscar Walden, Jr. was falsely | 11 | | accused, jailed, convicted, and served almost 14 years in | 12 | | prison for a crime he did not commit; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Oscar Walden, Jr. earned his bachelor's and | 14 | | master's degrees from Chicago State University, served as | 15 | | minister at Quinn Chapel AME Church, Mt. Zion AME Church, | 16 | | became a playwright, authored several books, and composed music | 17 | | for the drama "Skipper", based on the life of Milton Lee Olive | 18 | | III; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Oscar Walden, Jr. now ministers to prisoners | 20 | | around the world through the People's Courts of Final Appeal | 21 | | International World Outreach Global Ministry; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Oscar Walden, Jr. never gave up the fight to | 2 | | prove his innocence; therefore, be it
| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 4 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 5 | | commend Rev. Oscar Walden, Jr. on his struggle to prove his | 6 | | innocence and congratulate him on the opening of The Oscar | 7 | | Walden, Jr. Exhibit on Wrongful Convictions; and be it further
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 9 | | presented to Rev. Oscar Walden, Jr. as an expression of our | 10 | | esteem and respect.
