| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the | 3 |
| State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of WWII | 4 |
| Veteran, father, and businessman David Carrolton Baker of | 5 |
| Champaign on Wednesday, March 5, 2006; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, He entered military service on October 14, 1943, | 7 |
| during a time when the U.S. was building up for WWII; he was | 8 |
| sent to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, to receive his basic training for | 9 |
| a Military Operation Specialty of Intelligence; and | 10 |
| WHEREAS, Upon completion of his basic training, he was | 11 |
| assigned to HQ Battalion 7 Armed Field Artillery B in | 12 |
| preparation for Operation Overlord, which would be forever | 13 |
| known in history as D-Day; and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Corporal David Carrolton Baker served three years | 15 |
| with this Battalion in the European Theater before his | 16 |
| Honorable Discharge on December 16, 1946; and
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, He was a respected member of society because of | 18 |
| his exceptional skills as a bricklayer and carpenter in the | 19 |
| City of Champaign; he was a member of his local American Legion | 20 |
| and a respected businessman; and
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Those who new David best note his extraordinary | 22 |
| humor, honesty, and integrity, and how those traits made | 23 |
| positive impacts on the lives around him; he will forever be | 24 |
| known by those he touched as a blueprint on how to live a happy | 25 |
| life; and
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, His survivors include his daughters, Leann and | 27 |
| Phyllis, and son, Lester "Butch" John, who bore him eight | 28 |
| grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, of whom he | 29 |
| spoke fondly of to all he would encounter; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 2 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 3 |
| we mourn the passing of Corporal David Carrolton Baker, who was | 4 |
| a hero, father, businessman, and beloved friend to many, and we | 5 |
| extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who | 6 |
| knew and loved him; and be it further
| 7 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 8 |
| presented to his family as an expression of our sincerest | 9 |
| condolences.
