| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Peter | 4 | | Lazare of Springfield, who passed away on November 7, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Peter Lazare was born in Long Island, New York and | 6 | | raised in Stamford, Connecticut; he earned his Bachelor's | 7 | | Degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; | 8 | | he later received his master's degree from the University of | 9 | | Illinois-Springfield; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Peter Lazare spent more than a decade organizing | 11 | | labor unions in Chicago before he moved to Springfield in 1992; | 12 | | he was an expert analyst at the Illinois Commerce Commission | 13 | | for 20 years and was politically active until the time of his | 14 | | death, focusing on the urgency of addressing climate change; | 15 | | and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Peter Lazare was also the co-owner of the | 17 | | Grab-a-Java coffee shops with his wife, Meg; he and Meg filled | 18 | | a market gap in Springfield with their high-end, coffee-to-go | 19 | | concept; the shops also gave him a platform to share his | 20 | | artwork, which dabbled in the politics and cultural issues of | 21 | | the day, and is displayed prominently outside the two | 22 | | Grab-a-Java locations; in recent years; he held two art shows |

| 1 | | that were local cultural events and known for their uniqueness | 2 | | and hilarity; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Peter Lazare spoke French and enjoyed traveling to | 4 | | Paris with Meg as often as he could; in recent years, they | 5 | | traveled all over Europe; he enjoyed playing board games, | 6 | | reading, baking, and creating art projects with his | 7 | | granddaughter; he attended her soccer games, served as the | 8 | | coach of her Lego League team, and perfected his pancake recipe | 9 | | for her; he lived out his political convictions and will be | 10 | | remembered for his entrepreneurial spirit and his activist | 11 | | heart; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Peter Lazare was preceded in death by his parents, | 13 | | Edythe and Leon Lazare; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Peter Lazare is survived by his wife of 37 years, | 15 | | Meg Evans Lazare; his children, Sarah (Adam Johnson) Lazare and | 16 | | Ben Lazare; his granddaughter, Kinley Lazare; the mother of his | 17 | | granddaughter, Anna Schneider; his brothers, Daniel Lazare and | 18 | | Jonathan Lazare; his 22 nieces and nephews; and his wife's | 19 | | seven sisters and brothers; therefore, be it
