| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to mourn the death of Terry M. | 4 | | Marketti of Gardner, who passed away on December 14, 2012; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Terry Marketti was born in Joliet in 1956; his | 6 | | parents were Charles C. and Matilda "Tillie" Marketti; he grew | 7 | | up with his 2 brothers, Charles and Rick; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Terry Marketti dedicated his life to serving the | 9 | | communities of Grundy County, winning his first elected | 10 | | position at the age of 18 on the South Wilmington Village | 11 | | Board, where he served for 22 years; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Terry Marketti served with the Grundy County | 13 | | Sheriff's Department for 35 years; he rose from Chief Deputy to | 14 | | Sheriff by appointment in March of 2004 following the sudden | 15 | | death of Sheriff Jim Olson; he would go on to win re-election | 16 | | as Sheriff 3 more times, running once unopposed; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Terry Marketti also served on numerous boards for | 18 | | charities and other local organizations throughout his life, | 19 | | including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Will and Grundy Counties, | 20 | | Grundy Area P.A.D.S. (Public Action to Deliver Shelter), the | 21 | | Community Foundation of Grundy County, the Grundy Economic |

| 1 | | Development Council, Breaking Away, the Gardner Village Board, | 2 | | the No Tolerance Task Force, the Grundy County Emergency | 3 | | Telephone Systems Board, Operation St. Nick, We Care of Grundy | 4 | | County, and many others; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Terry Marketti was also a member of the St. | 6 | | Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington, where those who | 7 | | knew him best described him as a generous soul; he was known to | 8 | | donate to many local charities, non-profit organizations, and | 9 | | individuals; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Terry Marketti was dearly loved by his family and | 11 | | friends, was highly respected in law enforcement, and had a | 12 | | generosity that was legendary throughout the community; | 13 | | therefore, be it
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 15 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 16 | | we mourn the passing of Terry M. Marketti and extend our | 17 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | 18 | | and loved him; and be it further
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 20 | | presented to the family of Terry Marketti as an expression of | 21 | | our deepest sympathy.
