| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to recognize the 10th anniversary | 4 |
| of the Chicago Theatre District; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The major impetus behind the creation of the | 6 |
| Chicago Theatre District was the founding of Broadway in | 7 |
| Chicago, which began in July of 2000 as a joint venture between | 8 |
| the Nederlander Organization and Live Nation; Broadway in | 9 |
| Chicago, along with the League of Chicago Theatres and the | 10 |
| Goodman Theatre, worked tirelessly to create a national | 11 |
| reputation for stage theatre in the City of Chicago; and
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, The City of Chicago has seen great economic growth | 13 |
| from the Chicago Theatre District and its productions; the | 14 |
| district has more than 800 stage productions every year, which | 15 |
| draw more than 5 million theater-goers across the city; and
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, The Chicago Theatre District's productions help | 17 |
| to bring tourists to the city, whose dollars support hotels, | 18 |
| restaurants, museums, retail stores, and jobs in Chicago; the | 19 |
| district has also provided jobs for actors, artistic designers, | 20 |
| and others who work in the theater; and
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, The Chicago Theatre District attracts new |

| residents who come to the city looking for a vibrant arts scene | 2 |
| and has enabled Chicago's reputation as an arts destination to | 3 |
| grow; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, The Chicago Theatre District has brought the eyes | 5 |
| of the world upon the City of Chicago and its marvelous theatre | 6 |
| productions; therefore, be it
| 7 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 8 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 9 |
| recognize the 10th anniversary of the Chicago Theatre District | 10 |
| and congratulate the district's staff and performers on | 11 |
| bringing entertainment and economic development to the people | 12 |
| of Chicago; and be it further
| 13 |
| RESOLVED, That we recognize and thank Chicago Mayor Richard | 14 |
| M. Daley for his leadership in the creation of the Chicago | 15 |
| Theatre District and for his unwavering commitment to the arts; | 16 |
| and be it further | 17 |
| RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 18 |
| presented to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and the organizers | 19 |
| of Broadway in Chicago, the League of Chicago Theatres, and the | 20 |
| Goodman Theatre.
