| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Judge Stanley J. Roszkowski of Rockford, | 4 | | who passed away on July 7, 2014; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Judge Roszkowski was born in Boonville, New York | 6 | | on January 27, 1923 to Anna and Joseph Roszkowski; he spent | 7 | | most of his early years in Royalton; during World War II, he | 8 | | served as a nose gunner on a B-24 for the United States Army | 9 | | Air Corps, flying 34 missions in the European Theater; | 10 | | following the war, he earned his bachelor's degree in 1949, and | 11 | | his law degree in 1954, both from the University of Illinois at | 12 | | Urbana-Champaign; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Judge Roszkowski was nominated to the United | 14 | | States District Court in 1977 by President Jimmy Carter; for 7 | 15 | | years he heard cases in Chicago full-time and in Rockford | 16 | | part-time; he advocated a permanent court in Rockford to better | 17 | | serve the area, and in November of 1984, he was assigned to | 18 | | become the first full-time district court judge of the Northern | 19 | | District of Illinois's Western Division; he served in this | 20 | | capacity until his retirement in 1998; after his retirement, he | 21 | | continued to work for many years as a mediator; prior to his | 22 | | time on the bench, he worked for 22 years as a trial lawyer in | 23 | | Rockford; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, On October 29, 2011, the federal government | 2 | | dedicated the Stanley J. Roszkowski United States Courthouse in | 3 | | downtown Rockford; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Judge Roszkowski was preceded in death by his wife | 5 | | of 61 years, Cathy; his parents; 13 brothers and sisters; and 2 | 6 | | brothers-in-law; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Judge Roszkowski is survived by his 4 sons, Mark | 8 | | (Christie) Roszkowski, Greg (Pat) Roszkowski, Dan (Lynne) | 9 | | Roszkowski, and John (Maggie) Roszkowski; 4 grandchildren, | 10 | | Amanda, Alex, Anna, and Marc; his sister, Lovean Barnich; his | 11 | | sister-in-law, Jeanne Claeys; and numerous nieces and nephews; | 12 | | therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 15 | | Judge Stanley J. Roszkowski, and extend our sincere condolences | 16 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | 17 | | it further
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 19 | | presented to the family of Judge Roszkowski as an expression of | 20 | | our deepest sympathy.
