| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Cherry Valley | 4 |
| Police Chief Gary Maitland on his retirement, May 30, 2008; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Police Chief Gary Maitland career has included | 6 |
| time in England as an exchange officer and training at the FBI | 7 |
| Academy; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Under Chief Maitland's 12 years of service as | 9 |
| chief, the department's headquarters went from about 800 square | 10 |
| feet to 10,000 square feet when a new Village Hall opened in | 11 |
| 2001; other improvements included updating the procedures for | 12 |
| high-risk situations to comply with national standards, and the | 13 |
| village's approval of a referendum to create a municipal police | 14 |
| pension system for local officers; and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Much of the police work in the village centers | 16 |
| around CherryVale Mall, Menards, Hilander, and the other | 17 |
| commercial sites in the community; the police department has a | 18 |
| staff of 18, with 15 full-time staff, to keep order on the | 19 |
| streets in the 4.5-square-mile village with 2,500 residents and | 20 |
| nine million shoppers each year; there were 229 arrests for | 21 |
| shoplifting at the mall in 2002 and last year there were 342; | 22 |
| and

| WHEREAS, Gary
Maitland and his wife, Barbara, have two sons | 2 |
| and three grandchildren; his retirement plans include golfing, | 3 |
| reading, yard work, and day trips with Barbara; therefore, be | 4 |
| it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 6 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 7 |
| congratulate Chief Gary Maitland on his retirement and thank | 8 |
| him for his service to the community; and be it further
| 9 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 10 |
| presented to Chief Gary Maitland as a symbol of our respect.
