| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Gary Waterstradt of Danville, who passed | 4 | | away on August 21, 2020; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Gary Waterstradt was born in Danville to Henry and | 6 | | Mary (Nolan) Waterstradt on December 29, 1950; he graduated | 7 | | from Danville High School in 1969 and served with the U.S. | 8 | | Army, 101st Airborne Division, 2nd of the 17th Cavalry; he | 9 | | spent one tour in Vietnam and received several recognitions, | 10 | | including the Bronze Star; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Gary Waterstradt worked for the City of Danville | 12 | | from 1973 until his retirement in 2002; his employment | 13 | | encompassed many areas, including serving as Director of Parks | 14 | | and Recreation where he oversaw the municipal pool, over 80 | 15 | | recreational men's and women's softball teams, a pre-school | 16 | | program, and the Little Vermilion Fall Festival; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Gary Waterstradt became a city wide planner in the | 18 | | City Planning and Development Department in 1989; he was | 19 | | instrumental in working with the Danville Zoning Commission, | 20 | | Downtown Danville, Inc., and the Danville Renaissance Board; he | 21 | | played a key role in the purchase of land for Winter Park, the | 22 | | urban renewal area of Main Street that became Towne Center, and |

| 1 | | the development and zoning of land allowing for the | 2 | | construction of Lowes and Walmart; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Gary Waterstradt's love of the parks continued | 4 | | with his involvement with his children through baseball, | 5 | | softball, soccer, and Indian Princesses; his love of family was | 6 | | reflected in his dedication to the parks and the activities | 7 | | that surrounded them; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Gary Waterstradt is survived by his wife, Carolyn | 9 | | (Day); his children, Eric, Elizabeth, and Katie; his grandson, | 10 | | Turner; and his brother, John, and his sister, Donna Dines; | 11 | | therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 14 | | Gary Waterstradt and extend our sincere condolences to his | 15 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 16 | | further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of Gary Waterstradt as an expression of | 19 | | our deepest sympathy.
