| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United | 4 | | States Army Ranger Joseph Whiting Dimock II of Wildwood, who | 5 | | gave his life in the service of his country while serving at | 6 | | Camp Salerno, Afghanistan on July 10, 2010; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Joseph (Joey) was born in Libertyville on May 25, | 8 | | 1989 to Joseph and Ellen Dimock; he grew up with his younger | 9 | | brothers, Louis and Michael in Wildwood, where the Dimock | 10 | | family has lived for 21 years; he attended the Wildwood | 11 | | Presbyterian Church, where he was baptized at the age of 3 | 12 | | months and confirmed as an adult member in eighth grade; he | 13 | | faithfully attended Sunday School, worship, and the | 14 | | middle-school and high-school youth fellowship groups; he was | 15 | | particularly devoted to the annual summer high school mission | 16 | | trips, where he put his energy and skills to good use; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Joey loved the outdoors and was an active member | 18 | | of Cub Scout Pack, Venture Crew, and Boy Scout Troop 672; he | 19 | | earned the rank of Eagle Scout; for his Eagle Scout project, he | 20 | | collected nearly 200 worn, American flags so they could be | 21 | | honorably retired in a special ceremony; and | 22 | | WHEREAS, In 2007, Joey graduated from Warren Township High |

| 1 | | School; he was a superb swimmer and a member of the Warren Blue | 2 | | Devils swim team and swim club; in 2006, he and his teammates | 3 | | set the Junior Varsity Swim Record in the 400 yard freestyle | 4 | | relay, in which he swam the anchor leg; in the spring of his | 5 | | senior year of high school, he joined the United States Army | 6 | | and began his service in August of 2007; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, He served in the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger | 8 | | Regiment and was currently serving his third overseas | 9 | | deployment, his second in Afghanistan supporting Operation | 10 | | Enduring Freedom; during his service, he received the Ranger | 11 | | Tab, Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Parachutist Badge; he | 12 | | was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan | 13 | | Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism | 14 | | Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon; and he was | 15 | | posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Army | 16 | | Commendation Medal; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, United States Army Ranger Joseph Whiting Dimock II | 18 | | is survived by his loving family, his parents, Joseph and | 19 | | Ellen; his brothers, Louis and Michael; his paternal | 20 | | grandmother, Elna Jensen Dimock; his maternal grandfather, | 21 | | Alan R. McCausland; and his aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, | 22 | | and fellow soldiers; therefore, be it

| 1 | | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 2 | | mourn, along with his family, friends, and a grateful nation, | 3 | | the passing of United States Army Ranger Joseph Whiting Dimock | 4 | | II; and be it further
| 5 | | RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of United States Army | 6 | | Ranger Joseph Whiting Dimock II and his willingness to serve | 7 | | his country, which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; | 8 | | and be it further | 9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 10 | | presented to United States Army Ranger Joseph Whiting Dimock II | 11 | | as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
