| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Stephen Mark "Steve" Holy of Champaign, | 4 | | who passed away on December 13, 2015; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Steve Holy was born in Urbana on January 16, 1954 | 6 | | to Fred and Ethelyeen (nee Hoppler) Holy; he went to Garden | 7 | | Hills Elementary School and graduated from Champaign Central | 8 | | High School in 1972; he earned an Associate in Graphic Design | 9 | | at Parkland College and his bachelor's degree in legal studies | 10 | | from Kaplan University; he married Jeanne Brown in 1974; he | 11 | | married Kristen Fischer on May 5, 2005; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Steve Holy worked for Kraft, Champaign Audio | 13 | | Visual, Digital Media Group, the Police Training Institute, and | 14 | | finally the Erwin, Martinkus & Cole Law Firm; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Steve Holy was a lifelong practitioner of martial | 16 | | arts and a teacher; he was martial arts director at the | 17 | | Guardian Dragon Dojo, Yon-Dan (fourth degree-Isshin-Ryu | 18 | | Karate) and second-generation black belt under Grandmaster | 19 | | Shimabuku; he also taught self-defense classes at Parkland | 20 | | College and Urbana Adult Education; in recent years, he | 21 | | provided private firearm training and self-defense lessons; | 22 | | and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Steve Holy enjoyed classic rock music and sci-fi | 2 | | movies and was passionate about firing guns at his private | 3 | | shooting range; he enjoyed making home improvements and | 4 | | upgrading his and Kristen's rural property; he loved animals, | 5 | | especially Cassie, the dog he and Kris adopted from the | 6 | | Champaign County Humane Society; he was fond of family | 7 | | gatherings, often hosting them with Kristen in their home; he | 8 | | especially liked seeing his sons every Thursday night for the | 9 | | gathering of the "Holy Men"; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Steve Holy was preceded in death by his | 11 | | grandparents, Harold and Gertrude (Dorsey) Hoppler and Josef | 12 | | and Millie (Rehor) Holy; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Steve Holy is survived by his wife, Kristen; his | 14 | | sons, Matt Holy (Kara Beyer) and Patrick Holy (Aimee Densmore); | 15 | | his parents; his 2 sisters, Eileen Miller (Thomas Miller) and | 16 | | Ellen Holy (Greg Sellers); his sister-in-law, Hannah Bonicatto | 17 | | (Dan Bonicatto) and her sons, Tony Ehl and Andy Ehl; his | 18 | | sister-in-law, Jackie Myers (Paulette Ratkovich); his | 19 | | brother-in-law, Jonathan Fischer (Vi); his many aunts, uncles, | 20 | | and cousins; and Cassie, his faithful canine; therefore, be it
