| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Russell J. Kipkowski of Spring Grove, who | 4 | | passed away on July 26, 2014; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Russell Kipkowski was born in Chicago on August | 6 | | 15, 1938 to Roman and Ladislava "Lottie" (nee Shronkowski) | 7 | | Kipkowski; he lived with his family in the Norwood Park | 8 | | neighborhood and attended the William J. Onahan Elementary | 9 | | School and Taft High School; he served in the United States | 10 | | Navy and married Barbara Joanne Borucki on November 23, 1959 at | 11 | | St. Thecla Catholic Church in Chicago; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Russell Kipkowski proudly served in the United | 13 | | States Coast Guard for 20 years; he and his wife's travels took | 14 | | them from Juneau, Alaska to the South Pole, from San Francisco | 15 | | to Hawaii, and from Vietnam to Marathon, Florida; although he | 16 | | sailed on many ships throughout his career, it was the USS | 17 | | Rockaway and her crew that earned a special place in his heart; | 18 | | he was decorated with numerous honors and awards, including the | 19 | | Bronze Star and Purple Heart; he retired as a Chief Warrant | 20 | | Officer in Seattle, Washington; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Russell Kipkowski pursued his passion of a career | 22 | | in Law Enforcement as a Deputy Sheriff for 19 years in the King |

| 1 | | County Sheriff's Department in Washington State; after | 2 | | residing in Venice, Florida for a short period of time, he and | 3 | | Barbara moved to Spring Grove to be closer to family; he | 4 | | achieved his lifelong dream by serving as a Marine Patrol | 5 | | Officer on the Chain O' Lakes for the McHenry County Sheriff's | 6 | | Office; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, Russell Kipkowski was a member of the McHenry | 8 | | Masonic Lodge, the Tebala Shriners, and the Medina Shriners | 9 | | organizations; he actively participated in parades around the | 10 | | area as a "Genie" on his magic carpet; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Russell Kipkowski was preceded in death by his | 12 | | parents, Roman and "Lottie" Kipkowski; his brother-in-law, | 13 | | Hank Seligmann; and his nephew, Kenneth Seligmann; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Russell Kipkowski is survived by his wife of 54 | 15 | | years, Barbara; his children, Natalie (Robert) Duma and John | 16 | | Kipkowski; his granddaughters, Sheridan and Bergen; his | 17 | | sister, Hermina "Mickey" (Hank) Sasse; his sister-in-law, | 18 | | Darlene (the late Hank) Seligmann; his brothers-in-law, Gerald | 19 | | Borucki and George (MaryAnn) Borucki; his many nieces and | 20 | | nephews; and his beloved Jack Russell rescue dog, Snickers; | 21 | | therefore, be it

| 1 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 2 | | Russell J. Kipkowski, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 3 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 4 | | further
| 5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 6 | | presented to the family of Russell Kipkowski as an expression | 7 | | of our deepest sympathy.
