| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of William C. "Bill" Conro, Jr. of | 4 | | Hampshire, who passed away on January 12, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, William Conro, Jr. was born in Hampshire to | 6 | | William and Delia (nee Herrmann) Conro on January 9, 1927; he | 7 | | graduated from Hampshire High School in 1944 and enlisted in | 8 | | the United States Navy; during World War II, he served in the | 9 | | Pacific Theater as a motor machinist mate; he married Anita | 10 | | "Sis" Petersen on January 26, 1949; following his wife's | 11 | | passing, he married Carol Herrmann on October 19, 1992; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, William Conro, Jr. worked for over 40 years for | 13 | | Swift & Company, an ice cream distributor, in sales and as a | 14 | | driver; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, William Conro, Jr. was supportive of his community | 16 | | and served the Township senior citizens as a volunteer driver | 17 | | of the senior bus; he had been a member of the Hampshire Lions | 18 | | Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8043; he received | 19 | | the Earl Engel Award in 2011 for his community service; he was | 20 | | a lifelong member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church | 21 | | and served on the parish board and as a member of the Catholic | 22 | | Order of Foresters; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, William Conro, Jr. was the basketball coach at the | 2 | | St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School for 18 years; he loved | 3 | | basketball and was an avid fan of the Hampshire Whip-Purs and | 4 | | the Fighting Illini; he enjoyed taking many trips over the | 5 | | years with friends to the Illinois State High School Basketball | 6 | | Finals; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, William Conro, Jr. was preceded in death by his | 8 | | parents; his first wife, Anita; his son, Kim; his brother, | 9 | | Jerry (Lois) Conro; and 2 sisters in infancy; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, William Conro, Jr. is survived by his wife, Carol; | 11 | | his sons, Mark (Tammi) and Sam (Domenica); his daughter, Wendy | 12 | | Harries; his 8 grandchildren, Jonathan (Monica) Conro, | 13 | | Benjamin (Gwen) Conro, Sammy (Kristin) Conro, Kevin Conro, | 14 | | Trisha Conro, Tina (Ron) Bass, Devin Harries, and Emily | 15 | | Harries; his 2 stepdaughters, Barbara (Doug) Goff and Laurie | 16 | | (John, Jr.) Rich; his 18 great-grandchildren; his sister, | 17 | | Elaine (Eugene) Diedrick; and several nieces and nephews; | 18 | | therefore, be it
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 21 | | William C. "Bill" Conro, Jr., and extend our sincere | 22 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
