| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United | 4 | | States Army Staff Sergeant Joshua D. Powell of Pleasant Plains, | 5 | | who passed away on September 21, 2010, due to injuries | 6 | | sustained in a helicopter accident in Zabul Province, | 7 | | Afghanistan; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Joshua D. Powell served with the | 9 | | 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division at Fort | 10 | | Campbell, Kentucky; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, He was born in Springfield on November 10, 1984, | 12 | | the son of David and Susan Brooks Powell; he was a 2003 | 13 | | graduate of Pleasant Plains High School, where he lettered all | 14 | | four years in varsity soccer; he was a member of the Western | 15 | | Oaks Baptist Church; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, He was an avid hunter, and enjoyed collecting | 17 | | guns; he was a motorcyclist and recently became a St. Louis | 18 | | Cardinal fan; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his maternal | 20 | | grandfather, James M. Brooks; his uncle, Michael Powell; and | 21 | | his great-grandparents; and

Staff Sergeant Joshua D. Powell is survived by his | 2 | | parents, Susan (husband, Doug) Needham and David (wife, | 3 | | Theresa) Powell; his brothers, Travis (wife, Brea) Powell and | 4 | | Zachary Powell; his maternal grandmother, Judy Brooks; his | 5 | | paternal grandparents, John and Doris Powell; his great | 6 | | grandmother, Iva Hinrichs; his aunt, Becky Powell; his uncle, | 7 | | Jeff Brooks; his girlfriend, Rebecca Elshoff; and several | 8 | | cousins; therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 10 | | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 11 | | mourn, along with his family, friends, and a grateful nation, | 12 | | the passing of Staff Sergeant Joshua D. Powell; and be it | 13 | | further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Staff Sergeant Joshua | 15 | | D. Powell and his willingness to serve his country, which led | 16 | | to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further | 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of Staff Sergeant Joshua D. Powell as a | 19 | | symbol of our sincere sympathy.
