| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United | 4 | | States Army Sergeant Mark A. Simpson, of Fort Hood, Texas, | 5 | | formerly of Peoria, who was killed in the line of duty while | 6 | | serving his country in Kandahar, Afghanistan, on September 26, | 7 | | 2010; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, He was born on February 3, 1970, to George and | 9 | | Carol Simpson in Peoria; he graduated from Richwood High School | 10 | | in Peoria; after working as a security guard, a truck driver, | 11 | | and in food management, he joined the United States Army in | 12 | | 2005, and served tours at Fort Drum and Fort Hood before | 13 | | deploying to the Afghanistan war; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the | 15 | | Purple Heart Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, United States Army Sergeant Mark A. Simpson was | 17 | | deployed with the Fort Hood, Texas-based 584th Mobility | 18 | | Augmentation Company, 20th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer | 19 | | Brigade; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his son, Mark A. | 21 | | Simpson Jr.; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, United States Army Sergeant Mark Simpson is | 2 | | survived by his wife, Aletha A. Simpson; his three daughters, | 3 | | Shantallia K. Simpson, Krystin M. Simpson, and Jamie S. | 4 | | Simpson; his brother, George F. Simpson; his three sisters, | 5 | | Beth A. Camp, Carol K. Goewey, and Amy K. Lee; and his parents, | 6 | | George and Carol Simpson; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 8 | | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 9 | | mourn, along with his family, friends, and a grateful nation, | 10 | | the passing of United States Army Sergeant Mark A. Simpson; and | 11 | | be it further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of United States Army | 13 | | Sergeant Mark A. Simpson and his willingness to serve his | 14 | | country, which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be | 15 | | it further | 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of United States Army Sergeant Mark A. | 18 | | Simpson as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
