| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Peter D. Flament, who passed away on | 4 | | February 13, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Peter Flament was born at home in Waukegan to | 6 | | Peter and Helen Flament on January 2, 1927; in school, he | 7 | | participated in gym class boxing matches and set pins at the | 8 | | neighborhood bowling alley after school; he graduated with the | 9 | | Class of 1944; after graduation, he enlisted in the United | 10 | | States Navy and completed boot camp at the Great Lakes Naval | 11 | | Base; after training to be an engine mechanic/boiler maker, he | 12 | | joined the USS Montpelier and immediately went to war; in the | 13 | | days after the Pacific conflict ended, the USS Montepelier made | 14 | | port in Japan and aided in the rescue of Allied Prisoners of | 15 | | War; he was one of the first American troops to witness the | 16 | | devastation of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima; he married Dorothy | 17 | | on August 27, 1949; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, Peter | 19 | | Flament was accepted into the Local 93 Plumbers Union and | 20 | | became a skilled tradesman; he honed his skills by constructing | 21 | | two homes, building solid oak furniture, and completing | 22 | | numerous repairs for family, neighbors, and friends; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Peter Flament gave much of his time to his church | 2 | | and was a proud volunteer at Vista East Hospital for many | 3 | | years; he was generous with his knowledge and, through his own | 4 | | examples, passed down the value of "self reliance"; he will be | 5 | | greatly missed; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Peter Flament was preceded in death by his | 7 | | parents; his sister, Jean Anderson; and his son, Howard; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Peter Flament is survived by his wife, Dorothy; | 9 | | his daughters, Ruthann (Keith) Hoffman and Mary Jane (Peter) | 10 | | Garcia; his sons, Richard (JoAnn) and Michael; his | 11 | | grandchildren, Patrick (Mara) and Elizabeth Garcia and Brad | 12 | | (Rachel), Brian (Janel), and Alex Flament; his | 13 | | great-grandchildren, Brody and Presley Flament and Jonas and | 14 | | Julian Garcia; his sister, Mary Ann (George) Shwaiko; and his | 15 | | many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 18 | | Peter D. Flament and extend our sincere condolences to his | 19 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 20 | | further
